one of the other

A dreamer in a small box,

The lion too big for its cage.

A sister too old for the house,

The book too dusty for a shelf.

A buddha older than a buddha,

Somebody’s purse too tiny to hold,

A sandwich left uneaten,

A chair facing the corner.

There she sits wondering how,

She sees a road to nowhere.

A loud radio plays nothing,

The soft lovely scent of scraping metal.

The light touch of flowers in the summer,

A cold winter night near by a fire.

Somewhere out in the open of a dark subway,

In a major city a little girl sleeps soundly.
